Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-04-27
TL;DR
OpenPDF is a free PDF toolkit. Tools run in your browser. We don't upload, store, or transmit your files. The site is funded by display ads. Nothing here is professional advice. You use the service at your own risk; our liability is limited as far as applicable law allows. EU consumers retain all mandatory rights.
1. Who we are
OpenPDF (openpdf.app) is operated by Marco Bia, an independent developer based in Spain. For questions about these Terms, use the Contact form.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using OpenPDF, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
3. The Service
OpenPDF provides 10 PDF tools (view, merge, split, organize, annotate, sign, sign-electronic, compress, watermark, page-numbers, add-image) that run entirely in your browser. Files you load are processed locally on your device. The site does not require an account, does not have a paid tier, and is provided free of charge.
Advertising is delivered by Google AdSense subject to Google's policies and the consent management platform shown to users in regulated regions (EEA/UK/CH/California).
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code beyond what is intentionally available client-side.
- Probe, scan, or test the security of our systems or any third-party systems via our service.
- Use automated scripts that exceed reasonable rate limits or are designed to disrupt the service.
- Use the service to transmit malware, illegal content, or content that violates the rights of others.
- Use the service in violation of applicable law (export controls, sanctions, copyright, etc.).
5. Intellectual property
All content, code, design, and branding on OpenPDF are owned by the operator or its licensors. You may use the tools for personal or commercial purposes; you may not redistribute the site code or assets without permission. Any file you load remains entirely yours — we never take ownership of user input.
6. Not professional advice
OpenPDF is a PDF utility tool only. Nothing on the site (including signed-PDF outputs) constitutes legal advice. Electronic signatures generated by OpenPDF use the Web Crypto API and pdf-lib; their legal validity in your jurisdiction depends on local law and the specific transaction. Always consult a qualified lawyer for legally binding documents that matter.
7. Third-party services
The site uses Cloudflare (hosting and CDN), Google AdSense (advertising), Google Analytics 4 (aggregate, consent-gated), Formspree (the contact form), and Buy Me a Coffee (optional tips). Each has its own terms and privacy policy. The Privacy Policy names each one.
8. Service availability
We strive to keep the service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify or discontinue any tool at any time without notice.
9. Warranty disclaimer
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE OR SECURE. Nothing in these Terms limits rights granted to consumers under mandatory consumer protection law, including the EU Consumer Rights Directive.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL OPENPDF OR ITS OPERATOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
Because the service is free of charge, our total cumulative liability for any claim is limited to €50 unless mandatory law provides otherwise.
11. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, excluding conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising from or related to these Terms shall be submitted to the competent courts of the operator's domicile in Spain. EU consumers retain mandatory rights of their country of residence and may use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. Material changes are announced via a notice at the top of this page for 14 days. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.
